City To Accept Bids For New Server

Lawrenceburg leaders agreed Thursday to seek bids for a new server to meet increasing needs of the daily business of operating the city.

During a meeting of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council Thursday morning, John Sanders explained the need to install a new server in order to maintain daily operations. Sanders told council members that the city’s main server that connects all departments, will not meet future needs.

Sanders indicated that the main server, which contains the system’s core components, is currently at full capacity. He said all non-vital information was eliminated, allowing them to operate during the past six months.

At this point, he said problems are arising with the system. He said that because the system is overtaxed it frequently reboots. Just a few days prior, he said the issues caused a shut-down of the entire system.

Council members instructed Sanders to research and identify the best replacement, factoring in any growth that might occur for a five year period. Should the cost exceed $8,000, they voted to authorize the accepting of bids.

Sanders said that the cost is not included in the city’s current fiscal year budget. Since all departments utilize the server, City Administrator Chris Shaffer said the cost will be divided equally among the various departmental budgets.
